Namibia’s President Hage Geingob dies aged 82
Namibia’s President, Hage Geingob has died at the age of 82.
He passed away in hospital in the capital Windhoek. It was announced last month he had cancer - and was undergoing treatment.
Geingob was the nation’s third president following independence in 1990.
While he was well respected across Africa, some say a corruption scandal tainted his legacy.

Namibia is in mourning after the nation lost one of its most charismatic leaders, Hage Geingob. Namibians held a candlelit vigil in the capital, Windhoek, to pay homage to their late president. The much-respected leader, who was receiving treatment for cancer, passed away at the age of 82. Geingob played a central role in what has become one of Africa's most stable democracies after returning from a long exile in Botswana and the United States as an anti-apartheid activist. The Southern African nation quickly swore in his deputy, Nangolo Mbumba, as acting president to complete what was his second and final term in office.

Namibian President, Hage Geingob has passed away.
The 82-year-old was the 3rd President of Namibia since 2015.
He was a former veteran of SWAPO, who participated in the struggle to liberate, Namibia. President Hage Geingob was receiving medical treatment at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek, where he passed on.
The Namibian government says he was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. His death comes just weeks after he was diagnosed with cancer. Acting President, Dr Nangolo Mbumba, says the cabinet will convene immediately to make funeral arrangements.
This year, Namibia will go to elections and Geingob was expected to hand over power, after 2 terms in office
